My research focuses on basic and applied aspects of human performance, including display-control compatibility, multiple task performance, measurement of attentional demands and mental workload, human factors issues with Internet security, content preparation and web design, and skill acquisition.  Much of my research has been concerned with stimulus-response compatibility effects as they relate to response selection.  This research has highlighted display and control characteristics that ensure high compatibility, as well as factors that influence the likelihood that a person will have an appropriate representation of the task situation.  Most of my research is conducted in my Human Performance Laboratory, located in the Psychology Building at Purdue University.  I am currently working with four graduate students and Dave Pick, a Purdue Calumet faculty member.
