PSY 390 Research Opportunity Spring 2012Faculty member or graduate student Dr. William Graziano - Faculty Member Sara Branch - Graduate Student Description of research area Social Psychology Personality Psychology Close Relationships Description of undergraduate participation As a lab we are interested in the Big 5 personality trait of Agreeableness and how it relates to various social behaviors including prosociality, close relationships, and social influence. We also collaborate with the School of Engineering Education looking at how personality influences student interest in STEM majors and careers. Our projects include the following: 1. Studying the relationship between agreeableness, theory of mind, and interpretation of conflict in close relationships 2. Studying if agreeable people are more likely to conform using certain tactics of influence 3. Perceptions of prosocial behavior in close relationships 4. The relationship between Person-Thing Orientation and message framing regarding presentation of STEM majors/careers Undergraduate research assistants will work as an experimenter and/or confederate (i.e. you will have direct contact with participants) and may also work on literature reviews and IRB applications. Research setting Research assistants will work in a lab setting. Number of assistants needed 10-12 Contact information Sara Branch PSYC 2188 sbranch@psych.purdue.edu Additional comments All students are required to attend a one hour lab meeting on Wednesday evenings. In addition to the lab meeting, students must be available for 8 hours of research per week. Every student will act as an experimenter so you must be comfortable working with a team and with research participants. Additional requirements: GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred but not required. |
