David A. Santogrossi Graduate Instructor Award
AWARD DESCRIPTION: This award recognizes excellence in teaching for students working as a graduate instructor (GI) in the department. PRIZES: $500 and name engraved on plaque displayed permanently in the department. ELIGIBILITY: Current graduate student in good standing in the department with experience working as a GI. REVIEW PROCESS: To be considered for this award, the student should arrange to have the following materials submitted to Nancy O’Brien, Graduate Program Coordinator: (1) A letter of nomination from at least one professor familiar with his or her teaching, along with a copy of student teaching evaluations for the course. A student may submit up to two additional letters of nomination from faculty familiar with his or her teaching and may submit teaching evaluations for more than one course, if he or she has served as a GI on more than one occasion. (2) A 1 page statement of teaching philosophy. (3) A copy of the student’s CV. Applications will be evaluated by members of the Awards subcommittee of the Graduate Policy Committee. Committee members will not participate in the evaluation of applications submitted by their own students. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications are submitted each year in January.
