Application FAQ

1. Does the department have a separate application from the University?

No. The application submitted via the "Apply Yourself" on-line application system, is the only application that is needed.

2. Do I need to take the Psych subject test of the GRE?

No. Our Department does not require the Psych subject test. We do require the three general sections of the GRE (Verbal, Writing, and Quantitative).

3. What is the deadline for having my file completed?

December 3 (for Fall 2013 enrollment)

4. What is the deadline for taking the GRE test? 

Test results must arrive at Purdue by the application deadline of December 3. Since it generally takes up to 6 weeks for results to be reported by ETS, the test should be taken by October 15.

5. What is Purdue's institution code and the Psych department code for the GRE?

Purdue's institution code is 1631

Psychological Sciences' general psychology code is 2016.

6. Can I get the application fee waived?

Application fee waivers are only considered for applicants applying through a specific recruitment program that specifies a waiver of the application fee.

7.    How much is the application fee and where do I send it?

The application fee is $60.00 for domestic applicants and $75 for international applicants, and should be submitted on-line with the application

8.    What should I select for the "Enrollment Objective" on the on-line application?

Since we do not offer a terminal Master's program you will choose "Doctoral Degree" as your enrollment objective status.

9.  Do I need to apply to be considered for one of the fellowships offered through the Graduate School?

If you would like to be considered for a fellowship, please complete the Fellowship Essay located in the on-line application.  If you are selected for admission, you will automatically be considered for any fellowships for which you qualify.

10.  What are the average GRE scores and Undergraduate GPA for applicants admitted to the graduate program?

The current five year averages are:   Verbal: 575, Quantitative: 670, Written: 5.0, UPGA: 3.68.  We do not have a minimum GRE score requirement, however, a combined verbal/quantitative score of at least 1200 is desired.

11.  How do my recommenders access the on-line recommendation form?

Once you complete the recommendation section of your application, your recommenders will automatically be sent an E-mail notice asking for their recommendation, and directing them to the on-line recommendation form.

12.  Must I wait until I submit my on-line application before having my transcripts and GRE scores sent?

No, please have your transcripts and GRE scores sent to the department as soon as possible.  Once your application is received the department will combine the items.

13.  Do I need to apply for assistantship funding?

No, if admitted, you will automatically be considered for assistantship funding, which will be offered simultaneously with your offer of admission.

14. Where are my transcripts to be sent, and how many copies are needed?

One official/original transcript from ALL Colleges and Universities attended are to be sent to the Department of Psychological Sciences at:
