Scholarships and Awards

A variety of scholarships and awards are available to students through the university, College of Health and Human Sciences, and the Department of Psychological Sciences.  Some require no application (i.e., students are automatically considered when admitted to Purdue) but others do. There are also scholarships and awards earmarked specifically for PSY majors and that are made by faculty committees or judges within the Department of Psychological Sciences.

Description: The yearly Hadley Award is given to the senior PSY major judged to have presented the best research at the Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference held every April.  This honor comes with a $300 cash award, a letter of recognition and the inscription of the awardees’ name on a plaque that hangs in the department.

Description: This award recognizes one outstanding graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence in academics, extracurricular service activities, and leadership. Each winner will receive a recognition desk set and his/her name inscribed on a permanent plaque.  Each Outstanding Senior and his/her parents (or two guests selected by each winner) will also be invited to dinner on Friday, April 8, 2011 where they will be honored during the HHS Alumni Awards Dinner in the Purdue Memorial Union North Ballroom.  

Description: The Donald R. Ottinger Award is given to a junior Psychological Sciences major who has demonstrated excellence in research activities. Each winner will have her/his name inscribed on a plaque displayed in the department, a certificate, and a check for $300.

Purpose: Presented each year to a Psychological Sciences major who participates in the Study Abroad Program to help defray costs of travel and expenses. (Note: Students studying abroad during the spring 2011 semester are eligible and can submit their applications prior to leaving. However, they will not know of the award decision until after their semester abroad has begun.)
