Research Interests

My research emphasis is on the role of family, biological and individual influences upon the development of infants and young children. At the family level my research focuses on the role of "environmental chaos" upon infant development and parenting. At the biological level my research focuses on the role of chronic mild malnutrition and micronutrient deficiences (e.g., iron deficiency) on infant social-emotional development. At the individual level my focus is on the measurement and consequences of variability in early temperament. Of particular interest is how the impact of environmental chaos or nutritional deficiencies are moderated  by individual difference characteristics such as temperament, or how social and biological environmental influences interact to influence development. My research is carried out in both the United States and in developing countries.
