Research Interests My research interests involve the use of deceptive self-presentation in romantic relationships. Particularly, I am interested in deceptive self-presentation between potential relationship partners. Many times, the goal of deceptive self-presentation with a romantic interest may be to look more attractive and appealing to the other person. By using deceptive self-presentation, an individual can present himself/herself as more similar to the potential partner, with the hope of connecting on some higher level, or s/he could present himself/herself in accordance with the traits one perceives the potential partner to find desirable. Using deceptive self-presentation and initiating a romantic relationship under false pretenses, however, may have several negative consequences, including obscuring incompatibilities, promoting the continuation of deception from both partners, increasing one's risk of health problems, and stifling the opportunity to develop greater intimacy. It is, therefore, important to further examine factors that may influence one's use of deceptive self-presentation in dating interactions, with the hope of better understanding how people can better form stable, healthy, romantic relationships.
